I love this thing! I have been playing piano for over 30 years. Although it can NEVER 100% duplicate a Steinway grand, it comes closer than anything else on the market. You can change the camber of the keys so they can be hard to press like a full sized grand, or easy to press like a cheap keyboard...It's just an all-around good piano. The organ plays like an organ, the choir and orchestra voices are phenomenal and the 4 different types of piano will not leave you wanting for more choices. Everything seems to be covered! Oh, and earphone jacks!!! PRICELESS!!!
Some downfalls may be that since it's so light (121 lbs) it doesn't have a solid grip on my carpeted floor. I am hoping it will settle with time. Another downfall is that I can't seem to find enough time to play it! Seriously, another thing they didn't tell me when I shipped it was that although I paid shipping up front, FedEx wanted another $149 to hire a second person and a truck with a liftgate to get it off the truck once it got to my house. Of course, I just called a couple of friends and gave them a beer to help...cheaper than $149! So, beware of extra shipping charges.
I'm a 48 year old out-of-shape female and I assembled it myself. It is very easy to assemble but the top piece (keyboard) was a little bit too heavy for just me to lift so I used a couple of kitchen chairs to prop it up and get the stand under it. Worked like a charm!
I recommend for all ages, all levels of piano expertise. I don't miss my Kawai upright at all..no more tuning!
So, enjoy...no other digital even comes close to any of the Clavinova line Yamaha pianos!!! |

We bought this piano primarily for my wife... who is an acoustic piano purest, & who has been playing for almost 50 years!. After selling her beloved antique Ivers & Pond grand upright piano, she was deathly afraid the she made a terrible mistake. She was somewhat intimidated by all the bells, whistles & promises of the digital piano world.
I hit the internet and exhaustively searched for the best valued, "real acoustic sounding", graduated weighted keys digital piano with 5 star ratings. Initially, it looked like the YDP140 or YDP160 but when we went to Guitar Center to test drive them, my wife did not find their electronic controls very user friendly (no led readout nor did it have the ability to graduate the keys: light, medium, hard) like the YDP223.
Everything about the YDP223 spoke style, quality and ease. Taking the piano down to the extreme basic (hard weight keys, no reverb & grand piano-1 setting... she was very satisfied that it sound as good as her beloved Ivers & Pond! The headphones jacks w/headphone hanger was a nice addition for her too. I won't go into all the digital details of the YDP223 as they are plainly spelled out in the specs. Yamaha's packing is solid. Assembly of piano & bench was very easy with a Philips head screwdriver.

Yamaha YDP223 Digital Piano
If you are looking for an exceptional digital piano at a great price, the Yamaha YDP223 won't let you down. Excellent weighted key action, beautiful rich sounds...especially when the piano and strings are layered. Peavy, Robinson & Houston used the Yamaha YDP223 Digital Piano in studio recording sessions. For optimal recording purposes, Peavy, Robinson & Houston set the piano tone slider to bright, and recorded the keyboard and strings tracks separately (no layering effects while recording). The rich vibrant sounds are gorgeous. |

| This is simply the best value Digital Piano on the market. Beautiful notes, many program options, perfect sound. We purchased this specifically for my son who has Autism as it would allow him to explore and develop his musical talents but at a variable volume level that does not disturb his sister or the rest of the family. A terrific product worth every penny. Very high quality built, fit, finish and sound. |

| This has to be one of the best electric pianos on the market today. The sound it crisp and clear, and has plenty of reverb effects to make it sound all the more real. There is plenty of space on top for sheet music and/or music books. I would recommend buying a pair of over ear earphones just in case you don't want to disturb anyone else. It doesn't have a "zing" sound like many other electrics. MY only complaint is that the pedals are somewhat fragile: my hold petal has started to make a clicking sound when pressed. I'm sure the problem could be found if I turned it over... but i'm too busy playing it! MIDI connections work fine, but MIDI cables not included. As a bonus, it comes with 50 preloaded songs and the sheet music for them. A++++ |
